I started playing golf when I was in high school and aside from reading a few books and getting the occasional tip from other players here and there I am pretty much self-taught. After high school I started playing less and less but now that I'm a little older I have found a number of friends and colleagues that like to play so I have dusted off my golf clubs to get back into the swing of things so to speak.
I play on a regular basis now and my game is not terrible but up until recently it was not as good as I would like it to be. I would generally score somewhere in the high 80s to mid 90s. The problem is that a lot of the guys I play with are quite good and they were routinely beating me by 10 strokes or more so I felt I needed to up my game and I went on a mission to find various ways to improve my game as quickly as possible.
I felt I had a pretty firm grasp on the fundamentals of the game but I had some room for improvement. All of the guys I play with on a regular basis now were quite a bit better than me so I practiced a lot to try to get better. Whomever said practice makes perfect is a little off in my opinion. I practiced all the time but you won't improve if you keep practicing doing things the wrong way so I wanted to find a "golf system", some kind of step-by-step instructions that would help me improve in all areas of my game so I could compete with the hotshots that I play with.
After searching high and low I finally found a good golf system that works well for me. My drives are much more consistent and I'm able to keep the ball on the fairway, my putting has improved, and one of my biggest problems, my short game, has improved dramatically. I am now able to chip shots and get out of bunkers a lot better than I was able to before. I also have much more confidence and sharper mental focus. Finding a good golf system and following the steps systematically improved my game a great deal in a very short period of time and now my golf buddies are wondering what I've been up to. They think I've hired a professional for private lessons because now instead of getting beat by these guys every week I'm either in the mix or kicking their butts.
I'm really having fun on the golf course now, not only because my game is so much better but because the guys I play with have no idea how I've been able to improve so much so quickly. I did not go out and hire a professional golf instructor I simply found a good system with step-by-step instructions to help improve every area of my game and while I don't completely agree with the "practice makes perfect" line I would agree that when you start practicing doing things the right way your results will improve dramatically.
